Hi, I'm Tyler McBrien.

I'm the managing editor of Lawfare, a non-profit publication covering law, national security, and foreign policy, and a 2024-25 Law & Justice Journalism Project Fellow.

I've covered politics, war, criminal justice, international law, weird government tech, and historical memory for outlets such as the New York Times, Washington Post, The Atlantic, Slate, The Intercept, Foreign Policy, The New Republic, Mother Jones, The Baffler, the Los Angeles Review of Books, The Dial, and elsewhere, and I've appeared on MSNBC, BBC, PBS, ABC (Australia), and CBC Radio.

In a past life, I worked as an editor with the Council on Foreign Relations, a Princeton in Africa Fellow in South Africa, and a freelancer for organizations such as the Brennan Center for Justice, Solutions Journalism Network, and Tactical Tech. I have a master's degree in international relations from the University of Chicago.

I live in Brooklyn, NY.
